On January 19th, 2024 Yuri Kofner, economist, MIWI-Institute talked with Daniel, the curator of the science-popular Twitter account “More Births” on the intriguing topic of declining fertility rates in the West, with a focus on the United States and Germany. They explored the main factors influencing this demographic decline, such as cultural and values shifts, financial challenges, such as dual-income necessities and housing problems, and environmental impacts, including chemical exposure and social media usage. Daniel presented effective policy measures to boost fertility rates, e.g. financial incentives, better childcare infrastructure, affordable housing and strategies to influence societal norms.
